With Vishnu Veṇḍusutta

Standing to one side, the godling Vishnu spoke this verse in the Buddha’s presence: Ekamantaṁ ṭhito kho veṇḍu devaputto bhagavato santike imaṁ gāthaṁ abhāsi:

“Happy are the men “Sukhitāva te manujā, who pay homage to the Holy One! sugataṁ payirupāsiya; They apply themselves to Gotama’s instructions, Yuñjaṁ gotamasāsane, diligently training.” appamattā nu sikkhare”ti.

“Those who practice absorption
in accord with the training”,
“Ye me pavutte siṭṭhipade,
said the Buddha to Vishnu, (veṇḍūti bhagavā) “in the way of teaching I’ve proclaimed, Anusikkhanti jhāyino; diligent while there is still time; Kāle te appamajjantā, they won’t fall under the sway of Death.” Na maccuvasagā siyun”ti.
