Exterior and Cause Are Suffering Bāhiradukkhahetusutta

“Mendicants, sights are suffering. “Rūpā, bhikkhave, dukkhā. The cause and reason that gives rise to sights is also suffering. Yopi hetu, yopi paccayo rūpānaṁ uppādāya, sopi dukkho. Since sights are produced by what is suffering, how could they be happiness? Dukkhasambhūtā, bhikkhave, rūpā kuto sukhā bhavissanti.

Sounds … Saddā …

Smells … gandhā …

Tastes … rasā …

Touches … phoṭṭhabbā …

Ideas are suffering. dhammā dukkhā. The cause and reason that gives rise to ideas is also suffering. Yopi hetu, yopi paccayo dhammānaṁ uppādāya, sopi dukkho. Since ideas are produced by what is suffering, how could they be happiness? Dukkhasambhūtā, bhikkhave, dhammā kuto sukhā bhavissanti.

Seeing this … Evaṁ passaṁ …pe… They understand: ‘… there is nothing further for this place.’” nāparaṁ itthattāyā’ti pajānātī”ti.
