Gods of the Stormy Thunderclouds AbbhavalÄhakasutta

Seated to one side, that mendicant said to the Buddha: Ekamantaį¹ nisinno kho so bhikkhu bhagavantaį¹ etadavoca:
āSir, what is the cause, what is the reason why sometimes it becomes stormy?ā āko nu kho, bhante, hetu, ko paccayo, yenekadÄ abbhaį¹ hotÄ«āti?
āMendicant, there are what are called gods of the stormy thunderclouds. āSanti, bhikkhu, abbhavalÄhakÄ nÄma devÄ. Sometimes they think: Tesaį¹ yadÄ evaį¹ hoti: āWhy donāt we revel in our own kind of enjoyment?ā Then, in accordance with their wish, it becomes stormy. āyannÅ«na mayaį¹ sakÄya ratiyÄ vaseyyÄmÄāti, tesaį¹ taį¹ cetopaį¹idhimanvÄya abbhaį¹ hoti. This is the cause, this is the reason why sometimes it becomes stormy.ā Ayaį¹ kho, bhikkhu, hetu, ayaį¹ paccayo, yenekadÄ abbhaį¹ hotÄ«āti.
