Sights Rūpasutta

At Sāvatthī. Sāvatthinidānaṁ.

“Mendicants, desire and greed for sights, “Yo, bhikkhave, rūpesu chandarāgo, cittasseso upakkileso. sounds, Yo saddesu … smells, yo gandhesu … tastes, yo rasesu … touches, yo phoṭṭhabbesu … or ideas is a corruption of the mind. yo dhammesu chandarāgo, cittasseso upakkileso. When a mendicant has given up mental corruption in these six cases, their mind inclines to renunciation. Yato kho, bhikkhave, bhikkhuno imesu chasu ṭhānesu cetaso upakkileso pahīno hoti, nekkhammaninnañcassa cittaṁ hoti. A mind imbued with renunciation is said to be fit for work regarding anything that can be realized by insight.” Nekkhammaparibhāvitaṁ cittaṁ kammaniyaṁ khāyati, abhiññā sacchikaraṇīyesu dhammesū”ti.
