The Leash to Existence Bhavanettisutta
At SÄvatthÄ«. SÄvatthinidÄnaį¹.
Seated to one side, Venerable RÄdha said to the Buddha: Ekamantaį¹ nisinno kho ÄyasmÄ rÄdho bhagavantaį¹ etadavoca:
āSir, they speak of this thing called āthe cessation of the leash to existenceā. āābhavanettinirodho, bhavanettinirodhoāti, bhante, vuccati. What is the leash to existence? And what is the cessation of the leash to existence?ā KatamÄ nu kho, bhante, bhavanetti, katamo bhavanettinirodhoāti?
āRÄdha, any desire, greed, relishing, and craving for form; and any attraction, grasping, mental fixation, insistence, and underlying tendenciesāāRÅ«pe kho, rÄdha, yo chando yo rÄgo yÄ nandÄ« yÄ taį¹hÄ ye upayupÄdÄnÄ cetaso adhiį¹į¹hÄnÄbhinivesÄnusayÄāthis is called the leash to existence. ayaį¹ vuccati bhavanetti. Their cessation is the cessation of the leash to existence. Tesaį¹ nirodho bhavanettinirodho.
