Stinginess (1st) Paṭhamamacchariyasutta

“Mendicants, a resident mendicant with five qualities is placed in hell as if delivered there. “Pañcahi, bhikkhave, dhammehi samannāgato āvāsiko bhikkhu yathābhataṁ nikkhitto evaṁ niraye. What five? Katamehi pañcahi? They’re stingy regarding monasteries, Āvāsamaccharī hoti; families, kulamaccharī hoti; material things, lābhamaccharī hoti; and praise. vaṇṇamaccharī hoti; And they waste a gift given in faith. saddhādeyyaṁ vinipāteti. A resident mendicant with these five qualities is placed in hell as if delivered there. Imehi kho, bhikkhave, pañcahi dhammehi samannāgato āvāsiko bhikkhu yathābhataṁ nikkhitto evaṁ niraye.

A resident mendicant with five qualities is placed in heaven as if delivered there. Pañcahi, bhikkhave, dhammehi samannāgato āvāsiko bhikkhu yathābhataṁ nikkhitto evaṁ sagge. What five? Katamehi pañcahi? They’re not stingy regarding monasteries, Na āvāsamaccharī hoti; families, na kulamaccharī hoti; material things, na lābhamaccharī hoti; and praise. na vaṇṇamaccharī hoti; And they don’t waste a gift given in faith. saddhādeyyaṁ na vinipāteti. A resident mendicant with these five qualities is placed in heaven as if delivered there.” Imehi kho, bhikkhave, pañcahi dhammehi samannāgato āvāsiko bhikkhu yathābhataṁ nikkhitto evaṁ sagge”ti.
