Hell Nirayasutta

“Mendicants, a lay follower with five qualities is placed in hell as if delivered there. “Pañcahi, bhikkhave, dhammehi samannāgato upāsako yathābhataṁ nikkhitto evaṁ niraye. What five? Katamehi pañcahi? They kill living creatures, steal, commit sexual misconduct, lie, and consume intoxicants of beer, wine, and liquor. Pāṇātipātī hoti …pe… surāmerayamajjapamādaṭṭhāyī hoti. A lay follower with these five qualities is placed in hell as if delivered there. Imehi kho, bhikkhave, pañcahi dhammehi samannāgato upāsako yathābhataṁ nikkhitto evaṁ niraye.

A lay follower with five qualities is placed in heaven as if delivered there. Pañcahi, bhikkhave, dhammehi samannāgato upāsako yathābhataṁ nikkhitto evaṁ sagge. What five? Katamehi pañcahi? They don’t kill living creatures, steal, commit sexual misconduct, lie, or consume intoxicants of beer, wine, and liquor. Pāṇātipātā paṭivirato hoti …pe… surāmerayamajjapamādaṭṭhānā paṭivirato hoti. A lay follower with these five qualities is placed in heaven as if delivered there.” Imehi kho, bhikkhave, pañcahi dhammehi samannāgato upāsako yathābhataṁ nikkhitto evaṁ sagge”ti.
